Overview

Visit the SS Atlantic Heritage Park in Terence Bay to experience the picturesque seaside boardwalk, browse the museum, and learn the tragic story of the worst single-vessel marine disaster to occur off the Canadian coast prior to the sinking of the Titanic.

Inside the small museum, guests can take in many artifacts from the 1873 shipwreck, before exploring the park grounds, which include interpretive panels, a monument and gravesite, picnic areas, and coastal boardwalk.

From May to October, take part in a free guided tour to learn about the wreck from interpretive guides and hear the stories of the heroic locals who assisted in the rescue of the ship’s survivors. Tours can be reserved online at: https://www.ssatlantic.com/ssatlantic/book-tour/ The museum also houses a small gift shop where visitors can purchase products from local crafters as well as refreshments and snacks.

While on site, be sure to stroll the coastal boardwalk to Terence Bay Beach and Lighthouse, set upon the rugged granite seacoast, or bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at one of the picnic tables or under the gazebo. The coastline is similar to neighbouring Peggy’s Cove, but without the crowds.
