Overview

The Big Meadow Bog Trailhead is located at 197 Water Street, Westport, NS, and is the most accessible trail in Western Nova Scotia. The boardwalk trail is 1800mm wide and 800-metres (one-way). The trail has no stairs, several benches, free admission, and is open from dawn to dusk year-round. English, First Nations, and French interpretive panels with QR codes provide for a self-guided tour about the Eastern Mountain Avens (a species-at-risk), the Bog recovery process, and flora and fauna found in the Bog. An accessible picnic table is located at the Trailhead. 

Brier Island is a recognized eco-tourism destination, with visitors arriving to observe whales, other marine life, migratory birds, and the columnar basalt cliffs.
